CANTON, Ohio— Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) joined Canton Mayor William V. Sherer II to break ground on the East Tuscarawas Streetscape Project. Rep. Sykes secured $2,190,000 in Community Project Funding for this project as part of the Fiscal Year 24 federal budget.

“Connecting our communities means growth and opportunity. I am proud to have delivered funding to improve the connectivity throughout the City of Canton,” said Rep. Sykes. “This investment will encourage economic growth, improve traffic conditions, and uplift one of Canton’s legacy neighborhoods.”

“The East Tusc Streetscape Project is about more than just improving an area of roadway; it’s about making travel into our neighborhoods safer and more welcoming for everyone,” said City of Canton Mayor William V. Sherer II. “We are grateful to Congresswoman Sykes for securing $2.2 million in funding to bring this project to life and for her continued commitment to our community. Together, we will make Canton a better place for us all.”

This project involves reshaping East Tuscarawas Street to improve driver and pedestrian safety by reducing the width of the roadway at pedestrian crossing areas. The project will help facilitate the rehabilitation of the eastern gateway into downtown Canton.

The $2,190,000 for the East Tuscarawas Streetscape Project is one of the 12 Community Project Funding recipients, totaling more than $14.9 million, that Rep. Sykes secured in the 2024 federal spending bill. The other projects included in this funding can be found here.
